Trekking in the Everest Region
The season for trekking in Nepal is upon us again and I am meeting a lot of travellers who are heading out to experience the delights of that wonderful country. I was last there in 2012 when these notes were written; since then Nepal has experienced a serious earthquake so many of the recommendations I’ve made may no longer hold true. Always seek local and up to date advice.
However the geography doesn't change that much, you will be in a very remote place far from roads and modern infrastructure, at a high altitude and with pretty much only your own legs to carry you. And it is so worth it, wonderful countryside, stunning mountain views, kind and generous people; a fantastic experience.
The first section: Jiri to Junbesi most people can skip as most people travel fly into Lukla and therefore catch up with the route halfway through the second section: Junbesi to Namche Bazar. The third section: Namche Bazar to Everest everyone does, and I recommend that everyone reads the fourth section: Trekking Practicalities, Wealth can buy you some comforts, but comforts are few when you're at the ends of the earth.
